Response times for the top 40 gov- ernment websites ranges from well under a second for the Drug Enforce- ment Administration to more than four seconds for the U.S. Mint, according to a recent ranking by Keynote Sys- tems, which does online performance indexing for commercial and public- sector websites. That is really not much of a spread, said Keynote's marketing manager Aaron Rudger. "We don't see a lot of difference between the fastest and the slowest," in the government sites, Rudger said. In the global business top 40, slow- est response times can be can be more than five seconds. • BY WILLIAM JACKSON 34 GCN SEPTEMBER 2013 • GCN.COM LESS THAN 1 SECOND 0.11 DEA 0.56 Supreme Court 0.57 US Senate 0.77 SEC 0.78 FDA 0.85 FAA 0.94 OSHA 1--2 SECONDS 1.02 FirstGov 1.03 Government Printing Office 1.11 USPS 1.15 IRS 1.16 Bureau of Labor Stats 1.18 US House of Representatives 1.27 Justice Department 1.34 State Department 1.37 Transportation Department 1.38 FDIC 1.47 Centers for Medicare/Medicaid 1.49 Homeland Security Department 1.53 National Weather Service 1.54 CDC 1.57 National Park Service 1.57 Agriculture Department 1.59 FBI 1.72 Defense Department 1.73 Energy Department 1.74 Patent and Trademark Office 1.77 FTC 1.91 EPA 2--3 SECONDS 2.06 FEMA 2.14 U.S. Air Force 2.14 National Institutes of Health 2.45 White House 2.45 U.S. Marines 2.80 Library of Congress 2.86 Housing and Urban Develop- ment Department MORE THAN 3 SECONDS 3.17 Education Department 3.39 Veterans Affairs Department 3.88 NASA 4.59 US Mint 5 4 3 2 1 0 0.11 DEA 4.59 US MINT
